The GS invented the big adventure motorcycle, and the R1300GS is the deepest redesign the line has had. Almost nothing carries over: a new 1,300 cc boxer twin repackaged to shorten the engine, a pressed sheet-steel main frame with a bolt-on cast aluminium rear frame, and revised EVO Telelever and Paralever suspension. It is 12 kg lighter than the R1250GS and makes 145 hp.
The appeal is range of use: one bike commutes, tours two-up loaded and still goes down a fire road, and the options list (radar cruise, semi-active suspension, adaptive ride height) removes most excuses. The caution is that this is a clean-sheet platform, so early bikes carried the teething faults below.
