Irwin fastened the deck to the hull flange with sheet-metal screws through the aluminum toe rail rather than through-bolting it, and those screws lose grip as the joint works, so run a flashlight along the entire interior sheer clamp looking for stains, weeps, and salt trails.
The deck is balsa-cored and the hardware over it is screwed rather than through-bolted, so leaks feed the core; sound the whole deck with a hammer and moisture-meter every stanchion base, cleat, chainplate slot, and the mast step (two of three boats Practical Sailor inspected showed water inside).

The bilge is shallow and holds standing water a pump cannot strip, and stainless keel bolts sitting in stagnant oxygen-poor water are a textbook crevice-corrosion setup, so check for chronic standing water, find its source, and inspect the bolts and nuts for rust scale.
Citations were reported with bolt-on keels while Irwin's cruising models were encapsulated, and owners of individual hulls disagree, so look for bolt heads in the bilge and get the seller to state the keel type before you survey it.
The deck-stepped mast bears on a wooden compression post that rots at the top where it meets the cabin roof and sits near the standing-water zone at its base, so sight the deck mast collar for dishing and open the sole to inspect the post and support box.
